Monet's Garden, Marmottan, is located in Kitagawa Village, Aki District, Kochi Prefecture, and is modeled after Monet's beloved garden in Giverny, France. With features like a water lily pond and wisteria arches, it is the only garden of its kind in Japan, overflowing with light and color and recreating the world of Monet's paintings.
Monet's Garden Marmottan in Kitagawa Village is the only officially recognized Monet garden in the world, based on the Giverny garden where French Impressionist master Claude Monet spent his final years. Designed by Monet himself and serving as inspiration for his work, the garden has been faithfully recreated amid the lush natural surroundings of Kochi Prefecture, Japan. Particularly famous is the floating water lily pond in the Water Garden. Various types of water lilies bloom with each season, bringing the world of Monet's masterpiece, "Water Lilies," to life before your eyes.
The garden is made up of three areas: the Water Garden, the Flower Garden, and the Light Garden. In the Flower Garden, colorful flowers bloom with each season, allowing you to experience the vibrant world Monet loved. Scenes from Monet's paintings, such as the arched bridge over the water lily pond, willow trees, and wisteria arches, are recreated throughout, making you feel as if you're walking through a painting.
The park also houses a gallery displaying books and Japanese prints collected by Monet, a restaurant serving dishes made with local ingredients, and a museum shop selling original goods.
