Joruriji Temple is a Shingon Buddhist temple located in Kizugawa City, Kyoto Prefecture, founded in the late Heian period. It is characterized by its precious nine surviving statues of Amida Buddha and a beautiful pond garden that represents the Pure Land.
The layout of the temple buildings at Joruriji Temple is characterized by a long garden that runs east to west around Aji Pond. The three-story pagoda that enshrines Yakushi Nyorai is located in the east, and the main hall (nine Amida halls) that enshrines Amida Nyorai is located in the west. This is said to represent the Eastern Joruri World and the Western Paradise of Ultimate Bliss, and conveys the Buddhist worldview of the Heian period to the present day. In particular, the nine Amida Nyorai statues enshrined in the main hall have almost perfectly retained their original appearance and have been designated as national treasures.

Flowers bloom in the temple grounds throughout the year, and in the autumn, the contrast between the autumn leaves reflected in the pond and the temple buildings is breathtakingly beautiful. In the quiet temple grounds, you can experience the scenery of the Pure Land that people in the Heian period imagined. In addition, the main hall is dimly lit, and the nine Amida Nyorai statues floating fantastically create a solemn atmosphere and soothe the mind. Joruriji Temple, where history and nature coexist in harmony, is a hidden gem of an ancient temple in Kyoto and is recommended for those who want to quietly experience history.
