The "Stone-paved Shopping Street (Miyoshi Hondori)" in Miyoshi City, Hiroshima Prefecture, is an attractive retro townscape that retains the atmosphere of the Edo period. Lined with merchant houses with U-date architecture, you can experience history and culture.
Miyoshi City's stone-paved shopping street, known as Miyoshi Hondori Shopping Street, is located in Miyoshi-cho, Miyoshi City, Hiroshima Prefecture. During the Edo period, it flourished as the castle town of the Miyoshi Domain, as well as a key transportation hub and post town connecting Sanin and Sanyo. As a vestige of that prosperity, old merchant houses with "udatsu" (a type of fireproof structure) and beautiful stone-paved streets paved with granite still remain. Its historical value and scenic beauty have been highly praised, and it won the "Excellent Award" in the Urban Space category of the Urban Landscape Grand Prize in 2018.

Along the street, there are cafes, bakeries, general stores, and other establishments that use buildings that exude a sense of history, so you can enjoy visiting the shops as you stroll around. There are also restaurants that serve dishes made with local ingredients and shops that sell traditional Japanese sweets, allowing you to experience the unique flavors of Miyoshi. At night, "Mononoke lanterns" are set up during events, and you can experience the world of "Inoumononokeroku," a monster legend associated with Miyoshi City, creating a fantastical atmosphere that is different from the daytime.

This shopping street is not just a tourist spot, but is also integrated into the lives of local people. The traditional scenery and newly revitalized stores blend in harmony, warmly welcoming all visitors. It is a tourist spot representing Miyoshi City, where you can enjoy a variety of things, such as historical strolls, eating your way through the streets, and looking for souvenirs.
