Near Soja Okayama, it is the ancient tomb of the large-scale millet countries era fourth in Japan.
Zozan Kofun is a huge keyhole-shaped tumulus with a length of about 350m, making it the fourth largest in Japan. It is estimated to have been built in the mid-5th century, and shows that the Kibi region had a great influence in ancient times that rivaled that of the central government. The tumulus is accessible, and by actually walking around the vast grounds, you can get a real sense of the power of the ancient kings. Cherry blossoms bloom in spring, and cosmos flowers bloom in autumn, allowing you to enjoy a historical stroll in beautiful scenery throughout the seasons.

Small tumuli called secondary tumuli are also scattered around the area, giving a glimpse into the appearance of the tumuli at that time. In particular, the pottery and clay figures excavated from the tumulus speak of the high level of Kibi culture and technology. Many parts remain unexcavated, and their mysterious existence continues to attract visitors. This is a recommended spot not only for those interested in ancient Japanese history, but also for those who want to take a leisurely stroll around the vast grounds.
