This is a shrine with a long history that is revered as the main guardian deity of Iga Province. It is a power spot where you can quietly worship the guardian deity of the region in a solemn atmosphere.
Akokuni Shrine is the most highly ranked "Ichinomiya" shrine in the former Iga Province (present-day western Mie Prefecture), and has long been worshipped as the guardian deity of the land. It is said to have been founded before the Nara period, and has a very long history, having continued to watch over the Iga region. The main deity is Akunigi Tsukami, the god of the land.

The grounds are surrounded by dense trees, and in the center is a stately shrine building. The main hall and worship hall have a majestic appearance that evokes history, giving visitors a tranquil atmosphere. In addition, the space is filled with rows of large, aged trees and a sacred atmosphere that helps you forget the hustle and bustle of the city.

Iga is famous as a ninja village, but Akokuni Shrine is a valuable place where you can feel the history and culture of the faith of this area since ancient times. You can take your time praying and find peace of mind while experiencing the dignity of this ancient shrine that has watched over the development of the region and the lives of its people.
