One of the largest Chinatowns in Japan. In this exotic town, you can experience authentic Chinese cuisine, eat your way around, and experience traditional culture.
Yokohama Chinatown, which developed with the opening of Yokohama Port in 1859, is the largest Chinatown in Japan and one of the largest in the world. In an area of about 0.2 square kilometers, more than 500 Chinese restaurants, general stores, and souvenir shops are crowded together, and as soon as you pass through the gate, you will be enveloped in an exotic atmosphere. You can enjoy various regional flavors such as authentic Cantonese, Sichuan, Beijing, and Shanghai cuisine, and eating dim sum, meat buns, and sesame dumplings while walking is also popular.
The Guandi Temple and Mazu Temple in the center of the city have gorgeous decorations and a unique atmosphere, and are worshiped by not only tourists but also locals. By visiting these temples, you can experience traditional Chinese culture and history. During periods such as the Lunar New Year and National Day, grand parades such as lion and dragon dances are held, allowing you to experience the charm of the lively Chinatown even more.
In addition to food and culture, there are many specialty stores selling Chinese goods, tea leaves, herbal medicines, and more, so you can lose track of time just by looking around. It's a fascinating place where you can share a variety of dishes with friends and family, find your favorite dish, and discover something new no matter how many times you visit.
Other eye-catching sights include the Great Gate and the Guandi Temple Gate, the symbols of Yokohama Chinatown.
