Takatori Castle is a mountain castle site built on Mt. Takatori, 583 meters above sea level, located in Takatori-cho, Takaichi-gun, Nara Prefecture. It is counted as one of the "Three Great Mountain Castles of Japan" along with Bitchu Matsuyama Castle and Iwamura Castle, and its vast scale and skillfully constructed stone walls overwhelm visitors. In particular, in the early mornings from autumn to winter, a sea of clouds appears, and the stone walls appear to be floating above the clouds, making it known as the "Castle in the Sky," attracting many photography and history enthusiasts.

After being rebuilt by Tsutsui Junkei as a secondary castle of Koriyama Castle in 1584, it was renovated and expanded into a modern castle in 1585. It is said that a castle tower was built in the main citadel at that time.

During the Edo period, it was used as the administrative office of the Takatori Domain. In the Meiji period, it was abandoned, and the stone walls and castle tower were demolished.
All that remains are the stone walls, but it is a beautiful castle ruin with a sky-high feel.

[Useful points of concern]
You can drive up to the summit. However, the road is narrow and steep, and it is difficult to pass other vehicles, so driving caution is required. The road is closed just before the summit, and there is a small parking space on the side of the road where a few cars can be parked.
There are temporary toilets in the parking area.
