The Ghibli Museum in Mitaka is a dream museum where you can experience the world of Ghibli films. You can experience the charm and wonder of animation with your whole body.
The Ghibli Museum in Mitaka, Tokyo, is a place that embodies the world of Studio Ghibli works, and is an exciting place for anyone, even if they are not a fan. Based on the concept of "Let's get lost together," the entire museum offers an experience that feels like one story. Admission is by advance reservation with a designated date and time, and there are plenty of attractions, such as the Saturn Theater (a movie theater that screens original short animations) and the robot soldier on the roof. It is perfect for those who are looking for a special experience that can be enjoyed by children and adults alike while sightseeing in Tokyo.
The museum is full of playful devices filled with ideas from director Hayao Miyazaki. Attention to detail is apparent in the exhibits that teach the character production process and the principles of animation, and the fake counter with Totoro at the reception desk. In particular, the screening of the original short animation that can only be seen inside the museum is a must-see. The warm colors that appear in Ghibli works and the impressive hand-drawn illustrations in the space make you feel as if you are in a movie.
It is adjacent to the lush Inokashira Park, and the beautiful location that blends in with nature is also attractive. It is about a 15-minute walk from Mitaka Station or can be accessed by community bus. Spend a heartwarming time immersed in the world of Ghibli and create unforgettable memories of Tokyo.
[Trivia]
The museum's logo is a coat of arms-style mark designed by director Hayao Miyazaki, with a wildcat at the top, which represents a guide for travelers, three hawks and a boar from Inokashira Park on the shield in the center, which symbolize Mitaka City, and a lush large tree and Totoro at the bottom. Photography is prohibited inside the museum, but the museum hopes that visitors will use all five senses to experience the world of Ghibli.
[Hidden Spot Information]
At the museum's shop "Mamma Yuto," you can purchase museum-exclusive goods, and products are also available at the online shop of the same name. Inokashira Park, which spreads out right next to the museum, is an oasis in the city where you can enjoy the beautiful nature of the four seasons. Before or after the museum, we recommend strolling through the park or taking a boat ride on the pond.
