The Himeji City Museum of Art's main collection consists of works by local artists, modern and contemporary Japanese art, and art from abroad, including Belgium. The museum's collection includes approximately 5,000 pieces, including paintings, sculptures, photographs, posters, crafts, and swords. The Kunitomi Keizo Collection Room also features a permanent exhibition of masterpieces by French modern artists such as Corot, Pissarro, Monet, Rouault, Utrillo, and Matisse.

Himeji City Museum of Art's exhibitions are divided into two categories: permanent exhibitions and special exhibitions.

Special exhibitions feature works on loan from museums and individuals both in Japan and abroad, as well as themed exhibitions.
