Otowa Falls is a famous spring located beneath the temple complex of Kiyomizu-dera Temple in Kyoto, a World Heritage Site. Spring water from Mt. Otowa flows down through three waterfalls, giving the temple its name.

Each of these three streams is said to bring blessings. From left to right, they are said to bring academic success, romantic success, and longevity. Worshippers can choose one stream and scoop up the flowing water with a ladle, making their wish.

However, it is said that drinking from all three streams in an attempt to receive all the blessings, or drinking multiple cups, will result in the blessings being lost. It is best to narrow your wish down to one and take just one sip. This popular spot attracts many tourists.
