Okayama Prefectural Museum of Art is a prefectural art museum that opened in March 1988. It collects and exhibits modern and contemporary art works related to the local area. The museum is named after Tenjin-cho (the former site of the eastern moat of Okayama Castle) in the center of Okayama City, the prefectural capital, and actively introduces paintings, sculptures, prints, etc. by local artists to promote art appreciation among the prefecture's residents.

The permanent exhibition "Okayama Art Exhibition" displays artists related to Okayama, such as Hideo Kihara and Mizuzo Emi from the Taisho to Showa periods, and Jiro Takamatsu and Yoshiteru Kawachi from the postwar period. In addition, the collection of about 2,000 pieces includes a wide range of genres such as Western painting, Japanese painting, sculpture, crafts, and photography, and you can compare and appreciate the works of excellent artists from Japan and abroad. Special exhibitions and planned exhibitions are also held throughout the year, covering a wide range of themes from contemporary art to local culture.

The building was designed by Shinichi Okada (Okada & Associates), and while incorporating traditional elements, it has a modern exterior and exhibition room layout. The exhibition space, with a floor area of approximately 6,600 m2, offers a relaxed flow of traffic, and features an open atrium that lets in natural light, a lobby surrounded by greenery, and other features that make for a comfortable viewing environment. Inside the building, there is a museum shop and a small café space where you can purchase exhibition-related goods and local crafts, as well as take a break between viewing exhibits.
