The ruins of Takeda Castle in Asago City, Hyogo Prefecture, are mountain castle ruins known as the "Castle in the Sky" and the "Machu Picchu of Japan." In the early mornings from autumn to winter, you can see the fantastic sight of the castle floating in a sea of clouds, attracting many tourists.
Takeda Castle Ruins is a mountain castle built on the summit of Mt. Kojo, 353.7m above sea level, and was abandoned about 400 years ago. However, the stone walls remain almost completely intact, and the castle layout (design) looks like a tiger lying down, so it is also called "Tiger Lying Castle". Of particular note is the sea of clouds that occurs when the weather conditions are right. In the early morning of a sunny day with a large temperature difference between the daytime and early morning, and high humidity, the mist from the Maruyama River covers the mountains, creating a mysterious scene as if Takeda Castle Ruins were floating on the clouds. Many photographers and tourists from all over the country visit in search of this magnificent view.

A one-way observation route has been developed within the castle ruins, allowing you to stroll while feeling the majesty of the stone walls and the high level of castle construction technology at the time. The view from "Minami Senjo", which juts out to the south from the castle tower on the summit, is a particularly impressive landscape that has been called "Japan's Machu Picchu", and is a popular photo spot. You can also see the whole view of Takeda Castle ruins floating in the sea of clouds from the faraway Ritsuunkyo Gorge.

Inside the castle, there is a one-way observation route, and you can stroll around while feeling the grandeur of the stone walls and the high level of castle construction technology at the time. The view from "Minami Senjo", which juts out to the south from the castle tower on the summit, is particularly spectacular and is a great photo spot for overlooking the whole castle ruins. Takeda Castle floating in the sea of clouds can also be seen from Ritsuunkyo Gorge, making it a spot worth visiting day or night.

To access the castle, take a bus or taxi, as general vehicles are prohibited from entering the nearest parking lot, the "Bus and Taxi Stand."

Park your car at "Yamashiro no Go Tojoguchi" and take a bus or walk (20 minutes walk to the bus and taxi stand).

After getting off the bus, walk for about 20 minutes.
