Akiyoshidai is one of the largest karst plateaus in Japan. Its unique landscape of limestone rocks resembling flocks of sheep and the magnificent underground limestone cave "Akiyoshido" are its attractions.
Akiyoshidai was born as a coral reef in the warm southern seas about 350 million years ago, and over the years it has risen and weathered repeatedly to its current form. On the vast plateau, white limestone rocks stand out like a flock of sheep, creating a unique landscape that is both idyllic and evocative of the eternal history of the earth. From the observation deck, you can enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view of this magnificent scenery, and enjoy the natural scenery that changes with the seasons. In particular, after the spring burning of the mountain, new buds sprout, and in summer the world changes to a deep green, and in autumn the world changes to a golden color with swaying ears of Japanese pampas grass.

Under the Akiyoshidai is Akiyoshido, one of the largest limestone caves in Japan, designated as a special natural monument. Of the total length of about 10 km, about 1 km is open to the public as a tourist route, where you can see the mysterious and magnificent beauty of nature, such as the "Hyakumaizara" (100 plates) and the "Golden Pillar," up close. The temperature inside the cave is constant at about 17℃ throughout the year, making it cool in the summer and warm in the winter, making it comfortable to stroll around. Akiyoshidai and Akiyoshido are a rare geopark in the world where you can experience the different mysteries of the earth above and below ground.

[Hidden Spot Information]
Chojagamori, located in the northeastern part of Akiyoshidai, is the highest peak of Akiyoshidai and a little-known hidden spot. It has a great view and allows you to enjoy the entire view of the karst plateau in a more quiet and exclusive way. You can also find topography such as "dolines" and "lapies" that allow you to observe the limestone of Akiyoshidai up close, and feel the breath of the earth closer to you as you stroll around.
