Kumano Taisha Shrine in Matsue City, Shimane Prefecture, is the Ichinomiya Shrine of Izumo Province, which is also mentioned in the Izumo Fudoki, and is an ancient shrine known as the birthplace of fire in Japan. It is also worshipped for its blessings of matchmaking and warding off evil.
Kumano Taisha Shrine is located in a beautiful environment with a view of the mountains behind the shrine and the river in front of the torii gate.
Kumano Taisha is an ancient shrine representing the Izumo region, with its main deity worshipped as the divine ancestor Kumano Okami Kushimikenu no Mikoto, also known as Susanoo no Mikoto. It has long been praised alongside Izumo Taisha and has attracted deep faith as the "Ichinomiya of Izumo Province." It is said to be the "birthplace of fire in Japan," and the "Sankasai" festival, in which sacred tools for making fire, the "hikiriusu" and "hikirigine," are bestowed, is an important ritual held solemnly every year on October 15th. The grounds are surrounded by giant cedar trees, creating a solemn atmosphere, and the large trees, some hundreds of years old, tell of the depth of the shrine's history.

Because of the story of Susanoo giving a comb to Princess Inada, it is also worshiped as the god of matchmaking, and amulets such as the "matchmaking comb" are popular among women. In addition to the main hall, there are also auxiliary and subordinate shrines scattered within the grounds, each of which is said to have different benefits. In a quiet and calm atmosphere, you can take your time to worship and experience the world of Japanese mythology.

It is about a 30-minute drive from Matsue City.

Nearby, you will also find Yaegaki Shrine, which is popular among women.
