Shimokita Tea Garden Oyama in Shimokitazawa is a popular specialty shop that serves the finest Japanese tea selected by a 10th grade tea master, as well as matcha shaved ice that has customers lining up to get in.
Located within walking distance of Shimokitazawa Station in Setagaya Ward, Tokyo, Shimokita Chaen Oyama is a Japanese tea specialty store with two certified tea masters, one of the few in the country. The first floor sells carefully selected high-quality tea leaves, and the second floor tea room offers exquisite sweets and drinks made with the tea. In particular, in the summer, the matcha shaved ice supervised by the 10th-degree tea master is popular, and it is known for having long lines where numbered tickets have to be distributed. Recommended for tourists who want to enjoy the fusion of traditional Japanese tea culture and modern sweets.
The matcha shaved ice served in the tea room is characterized by its rich yet elegant matcha flavor, which matches perfectly with the fluffy ice. Matcha lattes and roasted green tea lattes are also popular, and a cup brewed by a tea professional is exceptional. In addition, the sales corner on the first floor has a wide variety of tea leaves, from home use to gifts, making it a perfect souvenir. During the new tea season, tea from a 10th-level tea master is available by reservation only, a treat for tea lovers.
The charm of Shimokita Tea Garden Oyama is that you can casually enjoy authentic Japanese tea, even though it's in Shimokitazawa, the epicenter of subculture. This will be an unforgettable experience for those who want to relax with fragrant tea after a stroll through the fashionable streets, or those who want to experience authentic Japanese tea culture.
Please note that the opening hours are from 2pm to 6pm. As it gets busy, they hand out numbered tickets. I went on a Sunday and waited in line for about an hour.
