Daisen-ji Temple is an ancient temple with 1,300 years of history located at the foot of Mt. Daisen. It flourished as a sacred place of mountain worship and is a power spot where nature and history coexist in harmony.
Daisenji Temple is an ancient temple with a history of about 1,300 years, and has flourished as a sacred place of mountain worship since the Heian period. It once boasted a vast temple area and was so prosperous that many temples were built. Even today, there are many things to see, such as the Amida Hall, a nationally designated important cultural property, and the main hall that enshrines Daichimyogongen, who is worshiped as the guardian deity of cattle and horses. The grounds are surrounded by a deep forest, and are enveloped in a solemn and sacred atmosphere, allowing you to calm your mind when worshiping.

Enryu-in Temple, one of the sub-temples of Daisenji Temple, became famous overnight when it was rebuilt in 2009 and 108 monster ceiling paintings drawn by Shigeru Mizuki (the creator of Gegege no Kitaro), a manga artist from Sakaiminato City, Tottori Prefecture, were donated to the temple. The monsters painted on the ceiling, each 90cm on a side, have humorous and sometimes eerie expressions that are unique to Mizuki, drawing you into his unique worldview.

Daisen-ji Temple is also attractive for its beautiful natural scenery in every season. In particular, during the autumn foliage season, the trees on the approach and in the temple grounds turn vibrant colors, attracting many tourists and hikers. In the snowy winter, you can see the fantastical temple covered in snow. It is also close to the entrance to the Daisen mountain trail, so it is recommended to stop by before or after mountain climbing or hiking.
