Oishi Shrine in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture, is a shrine dedicated to the Ako Roshi from the Chushingura legend, and is a historic power spot also known as a famous cherry blossom viewing spot.
Oishi Shrine enshrines the 47 Ronin of Ako and Kayano Sanpei as its main deities, and is a place that tells of the heroic acts of the Genroku period. Built on the site of the former Sannomaru area of Ako Castle, the shrine grounds include historical sites related to the loyal samurai and the Loyalist Treasure House (admission fee required). Stone statues of the loyal samurai line the approach to the shrine, making it a must-see for history buffs.

The grounds are famous for their cherry blossoms, with about 300 trees in full bloom in spring, and when in full bloom the entire area is enveloped in a pale pink hue. In autumn, the leaves are beautiful, and the stone-paved road leading to the Otemon Gate is even more colorful. You can take a stroll around the ruins of Ako Castle, so you can enjoy the changing nature of the seasons and the world of Chushingura at the same time.
