This art museum near Okayama Castle has a collection of ancient Oriental art from the Edo period. In particular, the three swords and short swords designated as national treasures are a must-see.
The museum displays ancient Oriental art paintings and crafts, swords, weapons, and armor from the collection of the late Okayama businessman Hayashibara Ichiro.

The museum is a valuable experience for sword fans and those interested in traditional Japanese culture, as it allows visitors to experience up close the intricate beauty and historical background of Japanese swords, which can be said to be the soul of the samurai.

The collection is diverse and includes more than just Japanese swords. There are many art and craft items on display that convey the culture and elegant lifestyle of the samurai, such as armor, tea ceremony utensils, Noh costumes, paintings, and lacquerware from the Momoyama to Edo periods. These are not just works of art, but also valuable documents that tell the aesthetic sense of the people of that time and the changes in history.

[Trivia]
Hayashibara Ichiro (1908-1961) was absorbed in the appreciation and study of swords since his student days, and eventually began collecting them. As his discerning eye developed, he acquired many famous swords after the war, and became one of the leading sword collectors in Okayama.
