In the center of the tunnel, there is a sign marking the border between Yamaguchi and Fukuoka prefectures, and it is customary to take a commemorative photo there. The sense of accomplishment of crossing Honshu and Kyushu on foot is something special that cannot be experienced with other means of transportation.

Because it is a pedestrian tunnel, there is no noise from automobiles, so you can enjoy a relatively quiet stroll. You won't hear the sounds of ships passing through the Kanmon Strait or smell the salty sea, but the greatest attraction is the extraordinary feeling of walking on the seabed.

Bicycles and mopeds can also pass through, but you must push them by hand.

In front of the parking lot is the site of the Dannoura battlefield, where the final battle between the Genji and Heike clans took place.

At Mekari Park, just outside the exit on the Moji side, there is an observation deck with a panoramic view of the Kanmon Strait. After crossing the tunnel, it is a good idea to take your time and enjoy the magnificent view of the strait.
