Located on the tip of Tsunoshima Island in Yamaguchi Prefecture, this A-rank lighthouse has high historical and cultural value and has been selected as one of Japan's 50 best lighthouses.
Tsunoshima Lighthouse is a beautiful white lighthouse located at the northernmost tip of Tsunoshima Island in Toyokita-cho, Shimonoseki City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. It was first lit in 1876 and was the first Western-style lighthouse on the Japan Sea coast. Its historical value has led to it being selected as one of the "50 Best Lighthouses in Japan." The contrast between the solid stonework, the blue sky, and the emerald green sea is beautiful and photogenic, attracting many tourists. The area around the lighthouse has been developed as a park, with a wide lawn, making it a great place for picnics.

The main attraction of this lighthouse is that the interior is open to the public, and you can climb up to the observation deck for a fee. Once you reach the top of the lighthouse's spiral staircase, you will be greeted by a 360-degree panoramic view. Below you can see the crystal clear sea of Tsunoshima Island, and in the distance you can see the majestic Tsunoshima Bridge, which connects Tsunoshima Island to the Japanese mainland. The view is particularly wonderful on a clear day, and the sense of openness as you can see all the way to the horizon is exceptional.

The area is surrounded by Tsunoshima Lighthouse Park, and the view of the lighthouse and ocean from there is also amazing.

There are many popular gourmet spots around Tsunoshima Lighthouse where you can eat fresh seafood bowls and other dishes. We recommend finding your favorite restaurant, such as Gran Vista Tsunoshima, Washokudokoro Yumemisaki, Tsunoshima Shokudo Happy Seafood Bowl, or Ohama.
