The Mikuriyahito Cave and Saigosakiji Temple, a place associated with Kukai, are mystical power spots located at the tip of Cape Muroto in Kochi Prefecture. Follow in the footsteps of his training and enjoy the spectacular views.
Mikurodo Cave is a cave where Kukai (Kobo Daishi) is said to have practiced asceticism in his youth. It is said that during his training here, Kukai attained enlightenment and was given the pen name "Kukai" due to the scenery where only the sky and the sea could be seen. The inside of the cave is filled with cool air and the sound of waves echoing, creating a sacred atmosphere that makes you feel Kukai's training at that time. From the entrance of the cave, you can see the rough waves of the Pacific Ocean crashing on the shore up close, and you can experience the grandeur of nature and the spirituality of Kukai.

Just above Mikurodo Cave is Hotsumisakiji Temple, the 24th temple of the 88 Shikoku Pilgrimage. It is located on a hill near the lighthouse on Cape Muroto, and you can see the Pacific Ocean from the temple grounds. The temple buildings such as the main hall and Daishi Hall give you a sense of the weight of history, and you can have a spiritual cleansing experience by worshiping in a quiet space. It is one of the most popular tourist spots in Cape Muroto, visited by not only pilgrims but also many other tourists.

This place, where history, nature, and spiritual elements come together, will be an unforgettable experience for those who are interested in Japanese culture and Buddhism, and those who like to visit power spots. The early morning sunrise and sunset views are particularly special.

[Trivia]
Next to the Mikuni Cave is the Shinmei Cave, which is also said to be associated with Kukai. This cave is narrower than the Mikuni Cave, but it is also said to have been used for ascetic training.
