Godaisan Chikurinji Temple is the 31st temple of the 88 sacred places of Shikoku, and is a temple of learning known as "Tosa no Monju." Its beautiful gardens and five-story pagoda are its attractions.
Located on Mount Godaisan in Kochi City, Chikurinji Temple is an ancient temple that is said to have been founded by Gyoki at the request of Emperor Shomu during the Nara period. The principal image is Manjusri Bodhisattva, popularly known as the "Buddha of Wisdom," and the main hall is designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan. The temple grounds are dominated by the only five-story pagoda in Kochi Prefecture, whose graceful appearance is the symbol of Chikurinji Temple. The scenic garden, with its beautiful seasonal flowers and moss, is a calm space that exudes traditional Japanese aesthetics.

In addition to the main hall, Daishi Hall, and five-story pagoda, the temple grounds also include a treasure museum that houses a Buddhist statue designated as an Important Cultural Property, allowing visitors to experience history and culture. The garden is also counted as one of the three most famous gardens in Kochi Prefecture, providing visitors with tranquility and healing. In particular, during the autumn foliage season, the temple grounds are decorated with colorful trees, attracting many tourists.

The five-story pagoda was rebuilt in 1980.
