Uwajima Castle is one of Japan's 100 most famous castles, with a beautiful existing castle tower. Its charm lies in the history of the Date clan and the magnificent view overlooking the castle town of Uwajima.
It is also famous for Hidemune, the eldest son of Date Masamune, who entered the castle and built the castle tower and castle town.

Uwajima Castle, located in Uwajima City, Ehime Prefecture, is one of the 12 castle towers still standing in Japan and is designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan. It is a historic castle built by Todo Takatora and later ruled by the Date clan for generations. Although the castle tower is small, the beautiful white plaster walls and curved roof give it an elegant impression. The castle is built using castle-building techniques from the Sengoku period to the early Edo period, and is particularly characterized by its irregular pentagonal layout.

Shiroyama, which is 73 meters above sea level, is located in the center of Uwajima city, and you can climb the promenade to reach the castle tower. Along the way, you can see the remains of the former stone walls and moats, giving you a sense of history. From the castle tower, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Uwajima city, as well as Uwajima Bay and the beautiful islands of the Uwa Sea that spreads out beyond, and you can enjoy the serene scenery of the Seto Inland Sea to your heart's content.

This is a recommended tourist spot for history buffs and those who enjoy photography, as it offers both value as a historical building and a beautiful view from the high ground.

[Trivia]
The castle's builder, Todo Takatora, was known as a master castle builder, and also worked on Inuyama Castle and Imabari Castle.
