Uchiko Town, which prospered from the late Edo period to the Meiji period due to the production of wood wax, is lined with traditional townhouses and wealthy merchants' mansions along the approximately 600m road, just as they were at the time. The town is characterized by its pale yellow clay walls and the alleys ("sedawa") between the buildings.

There are many sights to see within the area, such as the Wood Wax Museum Kamihaga-tei, which is open to the public as a wealthy merchant's mansion, and the Uchiko-za, an authentic wooden playhouse built in the Taisho period. At each facility, you can learn more about the history, culture, and lives of the people of Uchiko. There are also many cafes and galleries that have been renovated from old houses, so it is recommended to take a break during your stroll and experience local crafts.
