Chomyoji Temple is an ancient Tendai sect temple located on the eastern shore of Lake Biwa, halfway up Mt. Chomyoji. It was founded in 619 AD, and is said to have been built by Prince Shotoku. The principal image of the temple is the Thousand-Armed Kannon. It has been worshipped by many people since ancient times, as it is believed to bring good health and longevity. The approach to the temple is made up of 808 stone steps, and it is said that climbing to the top will bring you good health and longevity. If you are confident in your physical strength, why not give it a try?

The temple grounds are dotted with historic buildings, including the main hall and three-story pagoda, which are designated as Important Cultural Properties, and are enveloped in a solemn atmosphere. As it is located on a hill overlooking Lake Biwa, the view from the temple grounds is wonderful, and the majestic view of Lake Biwa is particularly impressive.
