Jakkoin is a nunnery associated with Kenreimon-in, located in the mountain village of Ohara, Kyoto. You can relax in the beautiful garden and tranquil atmosphere.
Located in Ohara, Sakyo Ward, Kyoto City, Jakkoin is a Tendai sect nunnery that is said to have been founded by Prince Shotoku himself at the request of Emperor Yomei, the father of Prince Shotoku. It is known that the daughter of Taira no Kiyomori, who also appears in the Tale of the Heike, spent the rest of her life here after the downfall of the Taira clan. The main hall was burned down by arson in 2000, but was rebuilt in 2005 and restored to its former appearance.

The charm of Jakkoin is undoubtedly its beautiful gardens in all four seasons. In particular, the garden centered around the "Migiwa no Ike" pond, which is said to have been viewed by Kenreimon'in, is a relaxing space with beautiful moss and green cedar trees. The temple shows different faces depending on the season you visit, with cherry blossoms in spring, green maples in summer, autumn leaves in autumn, and snowscapes in winter, and you can enjoy the beauty of each.
