The ruins of Bitchu Takamatsu Castle are located in Takamatsu, Kita-ku, Okayama City, Okayama Prefecture, and are known as the site of the "Water Siege of Takamatsu Castle" by Hashiba Hideyoshi (later Toyotomi Hideyoshi) in Tensho 10 (1582). Takamatsu Castle was an impregnable "swamp castle" surrounded by swamps, but Hideyoshi used a clever strategy to build a huge embankment around it and pour water into it, submerging it, making it the site of a notable battle in Japanese history. The castle no longer remains, but it is designated as a national historic site, and the remains of the main and second citadels have been developed, with relics scattered throughout that recall what it was like at the time.

The castle ruins have been developed as a park, and in mid-July, the beautiful "Muneharubusu" lotus blossoms in the vast moat. This name comes from the fact that the castle lord, Shimizu Muneharu, committed suicide during the water siege, and you can enjoy the flowers while thinking about the historical background. There is also a museum where you can learn more about the battle through models and materials related to the water attack.

It is also a popular place for locals to relax, and is a great place for strolling and walking. The cherry blossom horse field is particularly beautiful during cherry blossom season, and events are held where it is open to the public for free at night. This is a must-visit place for history buffs and those interested in the tactics of Japan's Warring States period.

If you have time, you can look out over the surrounding terrain from "Yatatami Rock", about 40 minutes up the mountain from Mogami Inari. The view is spectacular.
