Alley Karasukojima Park in Kure City, Hiroshima Prefecture, is adjacent to the Kure Base of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force. It is a rare park in Japan where you can see the submarines and escort ships anchored there from a very close distance. The view of the huge ships spreading out before your eyes is very impressive. It is beautiful not only during the day, but also at night when it is lit up, making it a popular photo spot. It is a place where you can feel the port of Kure and the activities of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force up close.

Alley Karasukojima, which the park is named after, was once the site of the Kure Naval Arsenal, and is adjacent to a group of red brick warehouses built in the Meiji era. Some of these warehouses are used as cafes and souvenir shops, so you can take a break in the retro atmosphere and enjoy looking for items unique to Kure. The unique scenery that blends history and modernity is attractive.

The types and number of Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force ships that can be seen change depending on the anchorage situation, but the sight of a row of submarines is overwhelming.

It's quite rare to see a submarine, so if you're visiting the Yamato Museum, it's definitely worth a look. It's about a 10-minute drive from the Yamato Museum.
