Kyushu National Museum is located in Dazaifu, Fukuoka Prefecture, and is the fourth national museum in Japan after Tokyo, Nara, and Kyoto. It opened in 2005 and has a unique concept of "capturing the formation of Japanese culture from an Asian historical perspective," collecting and exhibiting cultural assets that show the history of a wide range of Asian cultural exchange from the Paleolithic period to the end of the early modern period. Its magnificent glass-walled architecture harmonizes with the surrounding nature and attracts visitors. In particular, the contrast between the surrounding scenery, which changes with each season, and the modern building is a must-see.

The permanent exhibition "Cultural Exchange Exhibition Room" introduces how Japanese culture from the Jomon period to the Edo period was formed through exchanges with Asian countries through various excavated items and art and crafts. Cultural assets from a wide range of regions, including China, the Korean Peninsula, and Southeast Asia, are on display, allowing visitors to understand Japanese history from an international perspective. In addition, special exhibitions are held for a limited time to introduce valuable cultural assets from around the world, and there are always new discoveries to be made.

The modern glass-walled architecture was designed by architect Kikutake Kiyonori. It features an innovative design that was selected in an international design competition, and its exterior boasts beautiful curves that blend in with the surrounding mountains.

The museum is connected to the neighboring Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine by a moving walkway called the "Rainbow Tunnel," making it an ideal tourist route. Inside the building, there are plenty of restaurants and museum shops where you can enjoy a meal, a rest, or a souvenir hunt.
