Discover 20 hidden gems in Okayama. Explore the copper-red Fukiya Furusato Village, the famous single cherry tree Daigo-zakura, the ancient mountain fortress Kinojo, cliffside Taki Shrine, dramatic Hayama Gorge tunnels, and the huge limestone arch Rashomon. Perfect for off-the-beaten-path trips.
Okayama has a bunch of places most visitors skip, but they’re exactly the kind of “I’m glad I came” spots. Fukiya Furusato Village, with its red-bengara townscape, feels like stepping into old Japan, and in spring the single Daigo-zakura cherry tree turns an ordinary hill into a cinematic view.

For history fans, Kinojo (“Demon’s Castle”) sits on a ridge with wide views over the Kibi Plain — great for photos and for telling the Momotaro legend. Taki Shrine is built right into a rock face, and Hayama Gorge has dramatic cliffside tunnels and clear water that look amazing on Instagram.

Finish at Rashomon, a giant natural stone gate in the forest — remote, wild, and very un-touristy. Put 2–3 of these together in a rental-car day trip and you get a totally different side of Okayama than Kurashiki or Okayama Castle.
