Completed in 1958, the East Building (formerly the Main Building) is a monumental example of modernism, crafted from reinforced concrete to express traditional Japanese beauty. Its deep eaves and continuous beams create the shadows of a multi-story pagoda, while its pilotis and glass lobby embody the concept of an "open government building." Just standing in front of the building makes it clear why it was the first postwar government building in Japan to be designated an Important Cultural Property.

The first floor is a rest area open to the public. Here, you can appreciate up close the design of "architecture and furniture integrated," including Genichiro Inokuma's "Wakei Seijaku" (Wake, Kei, Seijaku) design that covers the hall's large wall, and chairs and stone tables designed by Tange Laboratory and Sakura Seisakusho.

The Main Building also has an observation deck on the 21st floor, which is open to the public.

From a height of 113 meters, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Takamatsu city and the islands of the Seto Inland Sea. The observation deck also has a cafe that is open to the public.

Please note that the facility is closed on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.

There is also a similar observation deck on the 29th floor of the Takamatsu Symbol Tower, which offers a panoramic view of Yashima and the many islands of the Seto Inland Sea, allowing you to tour both architectural and scenic sites at the same time.
