Koigakubo Marsh is located at an altitude of about 550m and is one of the largest high-altitude marshes in western Japan. Over 300 species of wetland plants grow naturally in the approximately 3.6 hectare site, and the "Koigakubo Marsh Plant Community" has been designated a national natural monument.
From spring to autumn, a variety of flowers such as Asian skunk cabbage, egret flowers, bitchu fuuro, and mikoshigiku can be seen, making it popular with plant lovers and photography enthusiasts. A 2.4km promenade has been developed within the marsh, and it takes about 40 to 60 minutes to go around it.

The most likely theory about the origin of the name is that the flat surface of the marsh looks like a carp, and there are ponds scattered around the area. It is also known as a "treasure trove of plants" because many surviving plants from the ice age can be seen, and you can enjoy the fresh green, dark green, and autumn leaves in each season.

It's a good place to go trekking while feeling like you're taking a walk.

There is a 200 yen admission fee as a marsh conservation cooperation fee.

[Hidden spot information]
"Ikura Cave", about 20 minutes by car from the marsh, is a limestone cave with a total length of about 1,200m, and the colorful lighting creates a fantastic scene. After your walk through the marshland, we also recommend trying the local brand of Chiya beef at Yakiniku Restaurant Chiyagyu in Niimi City.
