Located in Nima Town, Oda City, Shimane Prefecture, the Nima Sand Museum is a unique museum themed on sand and time, symbolized by the world's largest giant annual hourglass, the "Sand Calendar." The impressive pyramid-like glass building is a huge 5.2m-tall, 1m-diameter hourglass that stands in the center. The sight of the sand slowly falling over the course of a year gives a visual sense of the flow of time and impresses visitors.

Inside the museum, you can learn a variety of knowledge about sand, such as the mechanism and history of hourglasses, and displays of various types of sand from around the world. There is also a workshop where you can experience glass crafts, where you can create original sandblasted works and glass accessories. The experience of creating a one-of-a-kind piece as a memento of your trip is especially popular with families and couples. The time spent creating your own "sand art" will stimulate your creativity and become a special memory.

The architecture of the museum was designed by Shin Takamatsu, a native of Nima Town.
