The origin of Tawarayama Onsen, "Machi no Yu," is a free-flowing hot spring that flows directly from within the facility's grounds. The source spring is a simple alkaline hot spring (pH 9.9) with a gentle 41-degree feel on the skin, and is said to be suitable for neuralgia, joint pain, sensitivity to cold, and fatigue.

This rustic public bath, located in the middle of the inn district, conveys the atmosphere of a "hot spring town" with its simplicity, consisting only of a bathtub and changing room.

There are two day-use baths: Shirazaru no Yu and Machi no Yu.

Tawarayama Onsen is known for its unique culture of using public baths (outdoor baths) instead of indoor baths at inns, and has been selected as a regional asset for this rare "open-air bath culture." Its history, which prioritizes the freshness and cleanliness of the water, dates back to the Edo period when it was a hot spring resort. Even today, it forms a warm community where locals and travelers naturally interact with each other.
