Cape Ashizuri is a cape in the southwest of Kochi Prefecture. Located at the tip of the Ashizuri Peninsula that juts out into the Pacific Ocean, it is lined with sheer cliffs 253 meters above sea level. The view of the cliffs from the walking trail is breathtaking. A classic scenic drive takes you past Hakusan Cave, Kongofukuji Temple, and the statue of John Manjiro.
This cape is a symbol of Ashizuri-Uwakai National Park. From the observation deck, you can see the horizon forming an arch, offering a wide view that truly conveys the curvature of the Earth. Both Cape Ashizuri and the View from Cape Ashizuri received two stars in the Michelin Green Guide Japan. The plaza at the tip houses a statue of John Manjiro and a tourist information center, where you can pick up maps and multilingual pamphlets and use it as a starting point for your stroll.

Promenades surround the cape, leading to the chalk-white Cape Ashizuri Lighthouse and the scenic Hakusan Cave. The lighthouse sits atop a sheer 70-meter cliff, and the Cape Ashizuri Observation Deck offers spectacular views of the lighthouse and the Pacific Ocean.
Hakusan Cave is one of Japan's largest granite sea caves, offering a stunning contrast between the looming rock face and the azure ocean. Along the way, you'll find legendary sites known as the "Seven Wonders of Ashizuri," such as the "Hell's Hole" and the "Daishi's Nail-Writing Stone," making for a stroll filled with stories and more than just photos.

Additionally, Kongofukuji Temple, the 38th of the 88 Shikoku Temples, is located right next to the cape. Enjoy panoramic views of the cape from the approach, and after praying, visit nearby observation points like Tengu's Nose to fully appreciate the cape from various angles.

[Trivia]
Cape Ashizuri and its views have been awarded two stars in the Michelin Green Guide. It's also famous as a great spot to see the first sunrise of the year.

Cape Ashizuri is known as the southernmost cape in Shikoku and the only place where the Kuroshio Current directly meets the Japanese mainland.
